The GICT strategy based on ICT.

The importance of the ICTs in the economic sector has lead to the creation of the Global Information and Communications Department (GICT) which is a joint department of the World Bank and IFC, bringing together IFC´s experience private sector transactions and the World Bank´s expertise on policy and regulatory matters. A priority mission for GICT is the promotion of access to information and communications technology in developing countries.

It also helps to coordinate the World Bank Group´s relations and partnerships with other donors, international organizations and non-governmental organizations in the area of ICT for development.

Basically, the GICT was created by the World Bank to manage and create a plan that can implement the use of ICTs at the economic sector, to raise the economy of the countries .

The GICT has designed an ICT strategy based on four pillars:
  • Broadening and Deepening Sector and Institutional Reform.
  • Improving Access to Information Infrastructure.
  • Supporting Human Capacity to Explore ICT.
  • Supporting ICT Applications Across a Broad Range of Sectors.
